Abantu Kultuur MTÜ is a youth-led non-profit organisation based in Tallinn, Estonia, founded on 10 January 2025.
We work at the intersection of culture, creativity, and technology, supporting young people and strengthening intercultural understanding in Estonia. Our focus is on creating accessible cultural and educational activities that bring people from different backgrounds together in everyday community spaces.
The word Abantu means “people” in several African languages. It reflects our belief that meaningful change starts with human connection.
Our mission is to empower young people and youth workers through culture, creativity, and technology.
We aim to build bridges between communities, amplify underrepresented voices, and support inclusive participation in social and cultural life. Through practical, community-based programmes, we help young people develop leadership, collaboration, and critical thinking skills, while encouraging active civic engagement.
Abantu Kultuur turns ideas into action through public cultural events, educational programmes, and creative projects.
Our work connects young people, educators, and creatives locally in Tallinn and internationally through partnerships across Europe and Africa. Culture is at the centre of our approach — as a tool for learning, dialogue, and social connection.
We focus on three main areas:
Creating public cultural activities that encourage exchange, understanding, and shared experiences across communities.
Supporting young people and organisations in using digital tools and creative methods for cultural and social impact.
Offering opportunities for young people to express themselves, take initiative, and shape projects that matter to their communities.
All our activities are designed to be accessible, participatory, and relevant to local communities.
Abantu Kultuur is rooted in Tallinn’s diverse local communities.
Alongside international youth work, we develop public cultural activities in Estonia that bring together minority communities and Estonian residents through shared cultural experiences.
Our local work focuses on:
Public cultural evenings in Tallinn neighbourhoods, highlighting minority cultures and local collaboration
Storytelling, music, and creative workshops open to the wider public
Partnerships with Tallinn libraries, community centres, and cultural institutions
Supporting minority and African diaspora artists and cultural practitioners living in Estonia
We believe culture is most meaningful when it happens locally and accessibly. That is why our events are free of charge, open to all, alcohol-free, and family-friendly, and take place in civic spaces that are part of everyday community life.
Through this work, we aim to strengthen cultural understanding, encourage participation, and contribute to a more connected and inclusive Tallinn.
We believe that every young person has a story worth sharing and the ability to contribute to society.
Abantu Kultuur was created to give space to voices that are often unheard and to support connection across cultural and social boundaries. In a world that can feel divided, we use culture, dialogue, and creativity to bring people together in simple, human ways.
We believe that culture, education, creativity, and technology are key drivers of positive social change.
We see diversity as a strength and collaboration as essential. Learning happens not only in classrooms, but also in neighbourhoods, cultural spaces, and shared experiences.
When people are given the space and tools to connect and create together, communities become stronger, more inclusive, and more resilient.
